Model: self-awareness onion

3 layers understand your own emotions why do I feel those emotions personal values & success metrics (1) understand your own emotions There is probably more work to be done on this level if you ever: Why are you so angry? I AM NOT ANGRY! Do you know what you feel? Do you know in the moment? Can you name the feeling? How nuanced can you name it? This is related to [[model-6-aspects-of-empathy....

Journal: Object Calisthenics + TDD + Advent of Code - day 2

For Practice_ Object Calisthenics + TDD + Advent of Code I’m falling into this pattern: Red Green asap (fake it) Refactor (until you make it) Refactor Express intention Extract method, giving it a name that tells the intention, but the implementation looks more like a green asap Change implementation to match expressed intention Object Calisthenics rules often broken in the previous refactors: No properties Wrap all strings and primitives First Class Collections So before I did as little ’express intention’ as possible....

Retro: Object Calisthenics + TDD + Advent of Code - day 2

retro for Practice_ Object Calisthenics + TDD + Advent of Code Small retro (end of part 1) How did it feel? This was hard to answer in the moment, because I was feeling really lethargic, so everything felt that way What went well & should do more of? Even though I was feeling lethargic, the flow was still there Using specific lombok annotations (@AllArgsConstructor and sometimes @EqualsAndHashCode), instead of catch-all (@Value) use smaller scope tests, so they fail for only 1 reason Big retro (end of part 2) Were my expectations correct?...

Model: a generation is shaped by what happened in the world during their adolescence

Current generation living through things like Brexit Trump ??? immigrants And I’m interested in how these attitudes will shape them. I think this young generation is going to become a very accepting generation. What I love about millennials is that they are a much more accepting generation than older generations. Whether it is sexuality or gender identity It's a big nothing. "Whatever you wanna do" I think this younger generation is gonna be even more accepting and inclusive of people who are not like them, than previous generations (src: [[video-simon-sinek-in-conversation-with-reggie-yates....

Model: non-profit vs for-impact

Non-profit is a bad term non-profit is a tax delineation nobody wants to be defined by what they aren't it makes money a dirty thing you need money to sustain money is fuel Charity is a terrible word as well as if we're doing things for free I think they should call themselves for-impact organisations You better be profitable, but you define profit differently If your objective is to rescue kittens from trees Then you better be rescuing more kittens from trees this month than you were last month, that is profit the money is the fuel the profit is defined by whatever your cause is (src: [[video-leadership-through-inspiration-simon-sinek....
